Shawna Gervais Welcomed into Profession of Pharmacy at St. Louis College of Pharmacy

2012 Aug 27

Shawna Gervais of Slayton, Minn. recently received a white coat, symbolizing the first steps in becoming a student pharmacist in the profession of pharmacy. The white coat is a symbol of a commitment to professionalism.

Gervais was surrounded by family, friends, and faculty as one of 225 St. Louis College of Pharmacy students receiving their first white coat.

"It is an honor and privilege to enter a health profession," said Wendy Duncan, Ph.D., dean of pharmacy and vice president of academic affairs. "While challenging, assuming the responsibility of caring for others, of doing everything in your power to better the lives of your patients assures a life full of meaning and reward."

Once all the students received their coats, they recited the Pledge of Professionalism led by third-year student Gregory Sneed, and then signed that pledge, which will be displayed on campus.

The class of 2016 will spend the next four years gaining knowledge and skills to prepare them to become leaders in the profession of pharmacy.

Founded in 1864, St. Louis College of Pharmacy is the fourth oldest and 10th largest college of pharmacy in America.
